Brixham Knife Company LTD ("we", "us", "our") takes your privacy seriously. This page explains what personal data we collect, why, and what rights you have over it, in line with UK GDPR.
Depending on how you use the site, we may collect: your name, email address, delivery and billing address, and order history (when you buy something); your email address (if you join our mailing list); your name, email, and message content (if you use our custom orders form); and identity verification data (see section 3 below).
Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card details ourselves — these are handled entirely by Stripe in line with their own security standards. See Stripe's privacy policy for details on how they handle payment data.
UK law requires us to verify you're 18 or older before completing a knife purchase. We use a third-party provider, Didit, to do this, which involves submitting a photo of a government ID document and a live photo of yourself for comparison.
This live photo comparison involves processing biometric data, which UK GDPR classes as a special category of personal data requiring extra care. By completing this step, you explicitly consent to this processing for the specific purpose of age verification. This data is handled by Didit under their own privacy policy and retention rules, not stored by us directly. We only receive confirmation of the verification result (approved or declined), not the underlying images or biometric data itself.
We use your data to: process and deliver your order; verify your age as legally required; respond to enquiries via our custom orders form; send marketing emails if you've opted in (you can unsubscribe at any time); and meet our own legal and accounting obligations.
We share data with the third parties necessary to run the site and fulfil your order: Stripe (payments), Didit (age verification), Netlify (site hosting and form handling), and couriers (delivery). We don't sell your data to anyone, and we don't share it for third-party advertising purposes.
We keep order records for as long as required by UK tax and accounting law (typically 6 years). Mailing list details are kept until you unsubscribe. Custom order enquiries are kept only as long as needed to respond to your request.
Our site uses essential cookies and similar technologies needed for the cart, checkout, and site functionality to work. We also load fonts from Google Fonts, which may involve your browser connecting to Google's servers.
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to or restrict how we use it, and request a copy in a portable format. To exercise any of these rights, get in touch via our contact form or email us directly.
You also have the right to complain to the UK's data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), if you believe we've mishandled your data.
